How the meta tag generator works

This tool assembles the standard set of meta tags search engines and social platforms look for: the page title and description, a canonical URL, and the Open Graph / Twitter Card tags that control how a link preview looks when shared on social media.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Enter your page title (ideally under ~60 characters).
  2. Enter a meta description (ideally under ~155 characters).
  3. Enter the page's full URL and a social preview image URL.
  4. Copy the generated tag block and paste it into your page's <head>.

Where these tags go

Paste the generated block inside your HTML document's <head> section, alongside your existing meta tags. Most tags can appear in any order, but each should only appear once per page.

Frequently asked questions

As general guidance (search engines don't publish hard limits and truncation varies by device), titles are commonly kept under ~60 characters and descriptions under ~155 characters so they don't get cut off in search results.
Meta description doesn't directly affect ranking, though a compelling one can improve click-through rate from search results, which indirectly matters. Title tags do factor into how search engines understand page relevance.
Open Graph tags (prefixed og:) control how links preview on Facebook, LinkedIn and most other platforms. Twitter has its own tag set (prefixed twitter:) for previews on X/Twitter β€” including both ensures consistent previews everywhere.
